Gary Lynn Barrett 1946-2012 Gary Lynn Barrett, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on May 14, 2012. Gary was born October 30, 1946 as the only son of Alice (Jerry) Keen and Norman (Pat) Barrett. Gary proudly served an LDS mission to Norway. He served in the army during the Vietnam Conflict where he grew devoted to his flag and country. He was a true Patriot. Known by all as the "Candy Man", Gary was a successful, hardworking candy broker. Some of his passions were his yard, traveling and scouting, but his true love was for his family. Gary met the love of his life, Diane Palmer, at Evergreen Jr. High type class where they fell in love. They later married in the SL Temple on May 22, 1969. Gary was a proud, loving, supportive, protective and humorous father to three daughters and one son. He will be greatly missed here on earth, but we know he is renewing friendships with his loved ones in heaven. Gary is survived by his wonderful wife, Diane; their 4 children: Jennifer (Michael) Heaps, Kimberlynn (Paul) Sheffield, Matthew Lynn Barrett, Courtney (Mason) Bouck; and 9 grandchildren: Abbie, Brooke, Camron, Cassidy, Caden, Brayden, Brinnley, Allyson and Berkley. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Kendall Anderson, father and mother-in-law and brother-in-law Ed Barron. Funeral services will be Friday, May 18, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at the Sandy Hillcrest 4th Ward, 8735 S. Harvard Park Drive (1060 E). Viewing will be held Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 1007 W. South Jordan Pkwy and Friday at the church one hour prior to services.
